Healthcare professionals working in CVCs or private clinics who will administer the vaccination of CoronaVac are suggested to read the following information about the use of CoronaVac, in conjunction with the factsheet provided by the Department of Health which can be found under “Useful Links” of this training platform.

  1. CoronaVac is provided in form of a single dose vial.  No prior dilution is required before vaccine administration.
  2. 2 doses of CoronaVac, given 28 days apart, is required to complete a course of vaccination.  
  3. The contraindications for CoronaVac are listed as below:
  • People with history of allergic reaction to any component (active* or inactive* ingredients, or any material used in manufacturing process) of the vaccine or similar vaccines;
  • People with previous severe allergic reactions to vaccine (eg, acute anaphylaxis, angioedema, dyspnea, etc.);
  • People with severe neurological conditions (eg, transverse myelitis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, demyelinating diseases, etc.);
  • Patients with uncontrolled severe chronic diseases;
  • Pregnant and lactating women.

    *Including inactivated SARS-CoV-2 Virus (CZ02 strain), aluminum hydroxide, disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate, sodium dihydrogen phosphate monohydrate, and sodium chloride.
  1. To expedite the availability of CoronaVac to Hong Kong, some of the textual information (include but not limited to ​​​​​​​English name; dosing interval and expiry date) in the sales pack/label and the drug insert of the initial shipment of CoronaVac are different from the version provided by the vaccine supplier upon its authorization for emergency use under Cap 599K. In particular, please note the expiry date of the vaccine is 12 months.  Nevertheless, all the information provided in the factsheet are matched with the authorized one.
